A Random Short Story Empty A Random Short Story

Post by Quill Sun Sep 30, 2012 4:48 am

The reflection of the fire filled her eyes, and she stood still, mesmerized by the flame. Panic filled her heart, and the wolf panted heavily in spite of her fear. The snowy earth beneath her had begun to melt away, and she could feel herself sinking. She closed her eyes; the heat of the fire ring around her was becoming unbearable for her. The wolf pinned her ears down. She shivered involuntarily, and her teeth chattered so painfully that she swore she could feel them chipping, as if she had just bitten down into a tree. Inhaling what fresh oxygen was left surrounding her, she stretched out her forelegs into the withering snow. And it was over.

She opened her eyes, keeping them narrowed. Everything around her was too bright to see, and the level of brightness made her eyes water terribly. She sniffed the air, but there was nothing. When she tried to shake the snow from her fur, nothing flew from her coat. It was all empty. The fire was a memory that was now fading in the back of her mind. The snow was non-existent. The world was non-existent. And the wolf had begun to think that she herself was non-existent, that she was just a dream of her own. Her head pounded, and she closed her eyes tightly once more. But this time, she decided she wouldn't open them.
